It was confirmed that defenseman Brandon Carlo suffered a concussion in the Boston Bruins' home opener against the Arizona Coyotes, and the severity was a hot topic of discussion.

Carlo was cleared and returned to action last night as the team hosted the Dallas Stars at TD Garden, just ten days after sustaining a concussion that left him in a scary situation.

It was the fifth documented concussion in Carlo's seven-year NHL career. However, this latest one, even though it was mild, was different than the ones before, as it left him without sight in one of his eyes.

''It's unfortunate. It's been something I've experienced a couple of times throughout my career...That was huge for me, especially this time.''

''Talking with the doctors, it's kind of about the severity of the concussions and how long you're out. If you can bounce back and recover well, it shows that everything is leading in the right direction.''

His latest concussion, as described by Carlo, sounds intense. Outlining the play, admitted that the hit hindered his vision, which is a huge red flag with regard to head injuries. His words described it as one eye 'going black' for a short period.

Bruins reporter Ty Anderson made a comparison to former Bruins forward Marc Savard, who had his career cut short due to concussions.

''Don't love Carlo talking about how he «couldn't see out of one of his eyes» on the last concussion. Same thing Marc Savard dealt with on the concussion that ended his career.''
