The Providence Bruins are in the midst of their first-round series against the Bridgeport Islanders in the AHL playoffs.

The Bruins dropped game one to the Islanders by a score of 2-1 in an overtime final. That's not all the team lost in that game, though.

Top prospect Georgi Merkulov was hit along the boards and looked to be in severe pain as he was unable to put weight on his leg. Merkulov was eventually helped off the ice by a teammate and the trainer.

Watch the incident here:

Merkulov had one goal and four assists in his eight regular-season games with the Providence Bruins; last night was his first career professional playoff game. He will be a significant loss for a Providence team that needs all the offense they can get right now in the series.

Georgi Merkulov has already been ruled out for game two against the Islanders, which will be played on Wednesday night. Providence is already missing Cameron Hughes, Chris Wagner, Jesper Froden, and Eduards Tralmaks.

Here's to hoping for a speedy recovery for one of Boston's top prospects!
