Terrible news for one young player, as reports have been circling that a former second overall NHL Draft pick's career may be over at just 24 years old.
Drafted behind Nico Hischier in 2017, expectations were high from the Philadelphia Flyers for forward Nolan Patrick. His NHL career got off to a decent start where he posted back-to-back 30-point seasons.
Unfortunately, following the 2018-19 season, his career began to derail because of injuries, most notably post-concussion syndrome.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman recently reported some major news on his '32 Thoughts' podcast. As per Friedman:
''I had heard a rumour in the summer that Nolan Patrick was going to retire. Then I was told that is not the case; Patrick has a salary for this year of $1.2 million. There is no point in him retiring, as he has a salary to collect. I think there would be a lot of people that would be surprised to see him play this year, and they wonder about his future too''
While a return for Patrick, is not off the books, it seems highly unlikely as he only managed to skate in 25 games last season.
