The Dallas Stars have spent most of the summer trying to come to terms with their two most important players for new contracts; it just so happens they're both restricted free agents too.
After signing goaltender Jake Oettinger to a new contract, the Stars have turned their attention to forward Jason Robertson. Unfortunately, the two sides have not been unable to come to terms on a deal.
During the summer, the Stars' owners commented that younger players wanted to be paid too much money after one good season, and maybe that rubbed Robertson the wrong way.
The 23-year-old broke out last season with 41 goals and 79 points in just his third NHL season. Despite ongoing negotiations, Robertson has decided not to report to Dallas without a contract, missing the start of training camp.
