Ottawa Senators head coach D.J. Smith announced devastating news Wednesday morning regarding injured forward Josh Norris.

Norris was injured in the Senators' last game against the Dallas Stars, and the initial reports were a shoulder injury that would keep him out for at least two weeks. However, after further evaluation, it's possible that the forward could miss the rest of the 2022-23 season.

As per Ian Mendes of The Athletic:

D.J. Smith says there is no timeline yet on Josh Norris. But it's going to be «long-term».

They are still debating surgery option.

Decision will be made in the next few days, but Smith sounds like Ottawa will be fortunate to have Norris return at some point this season.

The Michigan native was originally selected 19th overall in 2017 by the San Jose Sharks but went to Ottawa in 2018 as part of the package for defenseman Erik Karlsson. The 23-year-old is coming off a breakout season, appearing in 66 games and recording 35 goals and 20 assists.

This will be a massive blow to a rejuvenated Senators team that was hopefully trying to get back into the postseason.
