It was a disappointing end for the President's Trophy-winning Florida Panthers. After having their best season in franchise history, many believed this could be their year, but it wasn't, ending in an embarrassing sweep in the second round to their state rival Tampa Bay Lightning.

The defeat was extra tough to swallow for players like former Boston Bruins' number one pick, Joe Thornton. Already a Hall of Fame-worthy career, the Stanley Cup continues to slip away from the longtime NHLer. Thornton turns 43-years-old this summer, so this may have been his last opportunity to win a Cup.

Thornton addressed the potential end of his career at his year-end media availability:

"My wife was kind of asking me last night. And really, I have no plans. It's kind of exciting that way. I came here to win a championship, and we fell short of that. But I think the Florida Panthers are going to be good for a long time. It's exciting around here now. I've been privileged to play this game for a long time. Don't take anything for granted. I never think what-ifs,' to be honest with you. I just try to live in the moment and go from there."

If Joe Thornton does retire, he will go down as one of the best players ever, never to win the Stanley Cup.
