The hockey community is mourning the loss of Gilles Leger after an announcement from the NHL earlier today. Leger was a respected figure, and had a very long hockey career as it spanned six decades.
Throughout his career in hockey he had multiple different roles, such as coaching, general manager and was even a scout for multiple different leagues such as the NHL, AHL, WHA.
Most people know Leger from his time spent with the Quebec Nordiques. He spent 11 years with the team from 1984 to 1995 where he would serve as the assistant general manager.
After that he would go on to be a scout for the Edmonton Oilers for three years, and then spent twenty years with the New York Rangers, which would be the end of his scouting career in 2019-20.
Statment from the NHL:
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Leger as they navigate through this tough time.
