On October 27th, the Boston Bruins announced they had traded centre, Jack Studnicka, to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for two prospects, defenseman Jonathan Myrenberg (who is said to be the central piece) and goaltender Michael DiPietro.

So let's get to know Jonathan Myrenberg.

Myrenberg, 19, is a right-shot defenseman, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 187 pounds. He was originally selected in the fifth round (140th overall) by the Canucks at the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

He currently plays for Mora IK of the HockeyAllsvenskan league in Sweden, where he's registered three goals and two assists in 16 games this season.

''One of the more stealthily solid picks in the 2021 draft was Jonathan Myrenberg. The fluid and intelligent right-shot defender spent his covid-shortened draft-eligible campaign split between the J20 and HockeyEttan, the third-tier professional league in Sweden. It was a strange circumstance and resulted in his slipping through the cracks. However, his draft-plus one season was far more impactful.''

''The 6-foot-2 defender produced 31 points in 35 junior games, which was good enough for fourth in points and third in points per game among all backs in the league. He also saw around 10 minutes per game in the SHL for 15 contests and looked capable at that level as well in his limited role.''

Myrenberg is more of a two-way defenseman with a high offensive upside. Hopefully, that can translate to the NHL because right-shot defensemen who can produce and defend are a hot commodity around the league.
