One of the biggest stories out of the NHL, the Jack Edwards and Patrick Maroon saga, continues.
After Edwards' comments directed at Maroon during the Boston and Tampa game on Monday, the forward, in turn, made a donation in his name. Since then, the donation total has gone upwards of $50,000, which will go to a local Tampa Bay charity.
According to Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, Jack Edwards has released his first statement on the matter (see below):
''I am sensitive to the subject of body image, and I didn't intend to offend anyone. In the course of a two-and-a-half hour broadcast, it was a light-hearted attempt to point out that Pat Maroon, who I also regularly praise for his camaraderie with teammates through the years, uses his size to be a difficult competitor. He's an effective player with three Stanley Cup rings something I also made it a point to say Tuesday night. I have reached out to the Lightning to connect with Pat.''
Even though this whole thing has maybe been blown out of proportion and gone on too long, something amazing did happen in the end. All that money will go to a great cause!
