Today, the hockey world received some sad news as longtime NHL enforcer Gino Odjick had passed away at the age of 52.

He was diagnosed with Amyloidosis in 2014, which is a disease that attacks your organs, and at the time he was only given weeks to live.

Odjick spent the majority of his career with the Vancouver Canucks, who released the following statement:

The Vancouver Canucks and Aquilini family mourn the tragic passing of Gino Odjick.

'Gino was a fan-favourite from the moment he joined the organization, putting his heart and soul into every shift on and off the ice,'' said Francesco Aquilini, Chairman & Governor. ''He inspired many and embodied what it means to be a Canuck.

Personally, he was a close friend and confidant, someone I could lean on for advice and support.

He will be deeply missed.''

The entire Canucks organization extends our heartfelt condolences and love to all of Gino's family and friends.

Odjick played 605 games with the Canucks (444), Islanders (82), Flyers (30) and the Canadiens (49).

In his career he collected 2,567 penalty minutes and built a reputation as being one of the toughest players in the league.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of his friends and family.
