Massive upset as Czechia defeats USA in the Semifinals

Just a few nights ago, Team Latvia shocked the hockey world and defeated team Czechia for their first ever win in preliminary round action.

Now, it was Czechia's turn, as they managed a massive upset with a 4-2 victory over the United States in the quarterfinals at the World Junior Championships.

USA got on the board early on a Logan Cooley (Arizona Coyotes) goal:

However, Czechia's Jan Mysak (Montreal Canadiens) tied it at 1-1 before the first period ended:

Petr Hauser (New Jersey Devils) gave the Czech's the lead midway through the second with a beautiful shot:

Matyas Sapovaliv (Vegas Golden Knights) put Czechia up 3-1 heading into the third period, and USA's Carter Mazur (Detroit Red Wings) got his team back within one with under 10 minutes to play:

An empty net goal sealed the win and huge upset for Czechia with only 1:32 remaining.

Jiri Kulich (Buffalo Sabres) was impressive for Team Czechia with 1 goal and 2 assists, and goaltender Tomas Suchanek (undrafted) stopped 28 of 30 shots he faced.

Boston Bruins' prospect, Riley Duran's tournament has come to an end as he finished with 2 goals and 3 assists in 6 games.

Czechia advances to the semifinals to face Canada on Friday.
