Boston radio show makes bold statement on Patrice Bergeron's career
Just reading the Tweet that the link was posted on, made me not want to even listen to it. That's how stupid it sounded.
It comes from WEEI 93.7 FM in Boston, which covers sports news through interviews, stories & podcasts. The title for this latest one reads as such, "The Greg Hill Show: Wiggy believes that Patrice Bergeron has underachieved as a Boston Bruin."
For absurd of an initial statement that is, I just had to give it a listen.
The radio show was talking about if Patrice Bergeron will retire after the season and if some of his teammates, especially Brad Marchand, are ramping it up, even more, to try and make one last go at a Stanley Cup, in which "Wiggy" replies with:
Seriously dude? The Stanley Cup is probably the hardest trophy to win in any professional sport. A trophy that NHL greats that make the Hockey Hall of Fame don't even have their name on.
It doesn't matter if Patrice Bergeron retired right now without winning another Stanley Cup. He's spent 18 years with the Boston Bruins and made the final three times, which is something some greats don't have the pleasure of doing once in their careers. Multiple Selke Trophies and near the top of many Bruins regular season and playoffs leaderboards as well.
Bergeron will be "walking into the sunset" on whatever day he decides to call it quits.
If you want to give it a listen, skip to around the 25-minute mark to listen to the insanity. Even when you think one person knows what they're talking about on this show, they change your mind pretty quick. There's maybe one person in this entire conversation that knows what they're talking about.
