The Vegas Golden Knights were in a must-win situation when they hosted the San Jose Sharks on Sunday night.

Sitting three points behind (with a game in hand) the Dallas Stars for the last Wild Card spot, the Knights blew a huge opportunity to gain some ground. Vegas was leading the Sharks 4-2 with 2:06 left in the third period when Nick Bonino scored to make it 4-3.

Then, with the goalie pulled and time running out, this happened:

Timo Meier tied the game with less than one second remaining in the game to send it to overtime. Meier was the one who said this prior to the game:

"We can maybe knock them out of the playoffs. We obviously have a rivalry against them, so we've got to play hard tomorrow and focus on those last couple of games."

The game would eventually go to a shootout, where 20-year-old rookie Thomas Bordeleau had a chance to silence the Vegas crowd and win it for the Sharks:

The Golden Knights had a 99.9% chance to win the game last night before Meier's buzzer-beater. Their playoff chances also took a hit, going from a 20.1% chance all the way down to just 12.5%. Vegas travels to Dallas to face the Stars on Tuesday night, which sets up a win, or they're out of the playoffs situation.
