NHL Update - Will Austin Watson face discipline for his illegal check?
Today during the 1st period of the Boston Bruins versus Ottawa Senators game, Senators' Austin Watson delivered an illegal check to the head of Bruins' defenseman, Jack Ahcan. Ahcan was uninjured on the play and Watson was issued a 2 minute penalty for interference.
After the game Bruins' Head Coach Bruce Cassidy was critical of the officiating on the play. Cassidy was justifiably upset at how the referees chose to even up the call after a post whistle scrum.
This evening though the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Austin Watson was being summoned to a hearing for interference. The hearing is likely to be a phone hearing, which means the punishment will be under 5 games.
