NHL Veteran Calls It A Career
Over his impressive 13-year NHL career, Jason Demers took the ice for 700 games, leaving his mark as a reliable defenseman.
Beginning his journey with the San Jose Sharks in the 2009-2010 season, Demers' career reached a crossroads. Despite being initially deemed not strong enough for the NHL, he defied expectations, establishing himself as a steady presence on the blue line.
In a recent podcast with SJHN, the veteran defenseman revealed that he's "pretty much" retired from professional hockey, hovering at around 95%. He's exploring opportunities with NHL Network and NBC Sharks for potential TV analyst roles, a transition that could lead to his formal retirement announcement in the near future.
From his modest start as a 2008 7th round pick, Demers played for various teams, including the Sharks, Stars, Panthers, Coyotes, and Oilers, accumulating 214 points and 407 penalty minutes over his NHL journey.
Notably, Demers entertained the idea of delivering candid commentary about the Sharks on NHL Network while building them up on NBC. His wit and insights could make him a valuable addition to hockey broadcasting.
While Demers spent last season with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL, the prospect of his TV analyst role is gaining momentum. As the story develops, the hockey world anticipates the official retirement announcement from this seasoned defenseman.
