On this day in 2019, the Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets were locked in a 2-2 overtime in game one of their second-round series.

Boston played Columbus in the second round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs (first-ever meeting) after the Blue Jackets' famous four-game sweep of the President's Trophy winner Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round.

Bruins' Brad Marchand made sure to make himself known early in the series. While the two teams were in the midst of the first overtime of game one, Marchand tacitly stomped down on Cam Atkinson's stick of the Blue Jackets while waiting for the puck to drop.

Watch the incident here:

Of course, Atkinson's stick was broken, and the referees did not see the play. Atkinson was visibly upset with Marchand, who acted like he didn't know what was going on. It was a classic Marchand play that drives opponents and their fans nuts but a reason why Bruins fans love having him on their team.

The Bruins ended up winning game one with a Charle Coyle goal and also the series in six games. Boston would advance to face the Carolina Hurricanes, where they defeated them quickly in a four-game sweep. The Bruins would eventually lose in the Stanley Cup Finals in seven games at the hands of the St. Louis Blues.

Brad Marchand would finish leading the NHL playoffs in points with 23.
