Despite a revolving door between the pipes this season thanks to injuries and COVID, the Boston Bruins are on their way to the playoffs.
Both Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak have been missing at various times this season and at one point even at the same time. That gave Jeremy Swayman and Dan Vladar time to prove themselves and both showed they could more than likely handle a backup role.
With both Rask and Halak scheduled to be free agents this offseason, only one will likely be back.
That is more than likely going to be Rask.
Bruins' insider Jimmy Murphy reports that while there were some extension talks earlier in the season Swayman's play ended those talks.
Halak's time in Boston is more than likely over as Swayman looks primed to play backup next year and Rask returning on a cost-effective short term contract.
Do you think the 22 year old Swayman is ready for a full time backup role?
