The NHL and NHL Player Safety has just handed out their first suspension of the year
The NHL and NHL Player Safety just announced and handed out their first suspension of the year to a player off the Colorado Avalanche.
NHL Player Safety has punished Colorado Avalanche's forward Matt Stienburg by suspending him for two games after a dirty hit against Tampa Bay Lightning's defenseman Erik Cernak on Wednesday.
For the original hit, Stienburg was given a five-minute major penalty and was also ejected from the game after charging at Cernak, and delivering a hard hit that caused both of his skates to leave the ice.
Cernak was clearly injured from the hit, and left the game and would not return to it, and there has yet to be an update on his status so far.
The NHL immideatly announced the following morning that Stienburg was going to have a hearing for his hit on Erik Cernak.
