The San Jose Sharks have traded veteran defenseman Brent Burns to an Eastern Conference contender.
In his 18-year NHL career, Burns has appeared in 1,251 games, collecting 227 goals and 550 assists for a total of 777 points.
TSN's Pierre LeBrun was one of the first insiders to report the full details of the trade:
The 37-year-old is headed to the Eastern Conference for the first time in his career to join the Carolina Hurricanes.
Lane Pederson is on his way to Raleigh as well, in exchange for Steven Lorentz, goalie prospect Eetu Makiniemi and a conditional 2023 3rd-round pick. The Sharks are also retaining 33 percent of Burns' contract.
