One thing that the Boston Bruins have is a very talented and deep defensive core. (Which is the main reason we saw Mike Reilly placed on waivers yesterday).
From the first pair to the third, the Bruins' blueline is a well-rounded group, even with Charlie McAvoy, their best defenseman, out until late November or even early December.
Last season was proof that Boston has one of, if not the best, backend in the NHL, and judging by a recent report, it's easy to see why. datadrivenhockey on Instagram recently released the league's best ''all-around'' defensemen, which was based off of ''on-ice expected goals percentage'' from the past three seasons. And three Bruins defensemen dominated the top five.
''These are the NHL defensemen who have most reliably maintained a high on-ice expected goals for % over the past 3 years (at 5v5).''
