In Friday's practice, Craig Smith skated on a line with Charlie Coyle and Trent Frederic. Montgomery offered no comment to the media on whether or not Smith will suit up for Saturday's tilt against the Minnesota Wild.
Smith returning to the third line with Coyle and Frederic could bode well for the Bruins. The trio skated together last season, and while they were streaky, there were times throughout the season when they were the best line going.
After sitting out as a healthy scratch for the last two games, don't be surprised to see some urgency in the veterans' game when he returns to the lineup.
Smith has also been mentioned in trade rumours during the off-season. Smith consistently has scored in streaks, and a productive Smith will help snag a better return for the Bruins should they try to move him. Once the Bruins return to full health, moves will be made to comply with the salary cap.
In his time with the Bruins, Smith has compiled 29 goals and 40 assists for 69 points in 139 games.
