Defenseman Jason Demers hasn't played in the NHL since the 2020-21 season, when he was part of the Arizona Coyotes.

The 34-year-old spent last season with Karzan Ak-Bars of the KHL in Russia, only appearing in five games with the club, and recording one assist. Now, it seems as though Demers wants to return to the NHL and one team in particular is giving him somewhat of a chance.

As reported by Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic:

''Not for certain, but it appears the Oilers are out on RW Jake Virtanen. D Jason Demers, 34, will be coming to camp on a PTO. He played 5 KHL games and w/ Canada's Olympic team last season. EDM is also discussing the idea of extending a PTO to former Flames RW Brett Ritchie.''

The Quebec native was originally selected in the seventh-round (186th overall) by the San Jose Sharks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and turned out to be a solid fourth to third defenseman in the league.

In 699 career games with the Sharks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and Arizona Coyotes, Demers has collected 45 goals and 169 assists.
