The Boston Bruins host the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night for their second last game of the 2021-22 NHL regular season.

The games now seem almost meaningless, but the Bruins still have an outside chance to climb into third in the Atlantic Division. Not that it will matter much because all Eastern Conference playoff teams will be tough opponents.

These last two games will be a good time for the team to get their powerplay going, which is mired in an 0 for 36 slump. It will also give Bruce Cassidy a good idea of who he will want to start in net for game one of the 2022 playoffs.

Cassidy discussed the goaltending situation:

"[It's] a little more open-ended than any other year. So will we run with one guy? Absolutely, if he's on. We're not going to out-think ourselves there ... we're playing every second night [in the playoffs], and if it starts running on, is a guy capable, is he going to be at his best and be able to handle that. Even sometimes when it looks like maybe things are going well, you have to consider that [switching goalies] ... so you're not putting a goalie at a disadvantage later."

He mentioned that the coaching staff will sit both Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman down and tell them the situation and listen to what their input on it will be.

Cassidy commented on the Bruins' struggling powerplay and what the team's next step will be with the man advantage now that important players (mainly David Pastrnak) are getting healthy and returning to the lineup.
