The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning squared off in an intense game six Thursday night, where the Leafs had a chance to win a playoffs series for the first time since 2004. Against the back-to-back champions to boot.
Toronto went down 2-0 midway through the second on an Anthony Cirelli goal for the Lightning, but Auston Matthews made it 2-1 just over a minute later. The Leafs then scored two goals in the final minute to take a 3-2 lead into the third.
Halfway through the third, the Leafs got into penalty trouble when they took two high-sticking penalties just 16 seconds apart. Nikita Kucherov scored on the five-on-three to tie the game, sending it to overtime to try and force a game seven.
Then, at 18:04 of the first overtime, Brayden Point got his chance:
Point has made himself quite the playoff performer over the last two years with the Tampa Bay Lightning, being an integral piece of their back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships.
There will now be two-game sevens so far on Saturday night! A chance for a third if the Minnesota Wild beat the St. Louis Blues and the Edmonton Oilers beat the Los Angeles Kings later tonight.
