Goaltenders in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs have had a tough few nights in the second round so far.
First, it was Jordan Binnington of the St. Louis Blues who was forced to leave game three after a massive collision with Colorado Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri. It is now reported that Binnington is most likely out for the rest of the series.
Then, last night it was Edmonton Oilers goaltender Mike Smith who took a hit from Milan Lucic of the Calgary Flames behind the net but did stay in the game after a quick trip off for concussion protocol.
The Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning wanted to join in on the player-goalie collisions in their game four matchup tonight as well. As Lightning forward, Anthony Cirelli was driving hard to the net, he was bumped off balance by Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad into his own goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Of course, a scrum quickly followed.
