They acquired Elias Lindholm, Nikita Zadarov and Max Jones in free agency, while letting other players walk.
However, for the Bruins to acquire Laine, they will have to exercise patience.
As According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the team and Laine's Camp have mutually agreed to find a trade partner.
But due to the fact he's still in the player assistance program, the Blue Jackets and Laine cannot begin the process of trade-talks.
Worst news yet, is according to The Athletic's Aaron Portzline, the team has heard no word of whether or not Laine has exited the program as of June 30th.
This uncertainty will cause chaos for teams interested in signing Laine, ultimately making them wait at the door.
But even so, there's several teams interested in Laine according to TSN's Craig Button and one of which could be the Minnesota Wild. Laine could thrive among a playmaking center, which of course the Bruins could use Elias Lindholm as a way to lure him to Boston.
But Geoff Baker of The Seattle Times has linked Laine to the Kraken, who could view him as a high-upside player, with a gamble as the team is one of the lowest scoring in the NHL.
With a $8.7 M AAV contract, with two-years left, Laine could be a rental for the Kraken as a short-term option.
No trade for Laine can occur until he clears the Player Assistance Program, and teams have had the time to discuss terms, options and contracts if it comes up in discussions.
His cap hit could be a detriment to many of the suitors involved, but for now, trade remains a pure speculation for all of us watching from the sidelines.
