Another Former Boston Bruins fan favourite has emerged as a trade candidate
The Chicago Blackhawks will look different the next time you see them in Boston. They've recently fired their head coach Luke Richardson, and now Anders Sorensen is the interim bench boss.
Could this be a sign of more to come? The Blackhawks will need to course correct if the rebuild is to continue, without unnecessary setbacks.
This means the Blackhawks could end up dealing some trade pieces for assets, come.
The team is currently 8-16-2 and 8th in the Central Division, and one trade chip the Bruins could swing back to is Ryan Donato.
A former Bruins, who has played 23 games for the Hawks this season and has scored 15 points( 10 G, 5 A) spending the early part of the season on the 4th line, and now a 2C for the Blackhawks.
Donato, 28, has had an excellent start to the season with the Blackhawks. In 23 games, the 2014 second-overall pick has 10 goals to go along with 15 points. With this, he is on pace to crush his current career highs in goals (16) and points (31).
The 28-year-old forward is set to become an UFA when his contract expires at the end of the season and could fetch a nice return, as a rental.
The Bruins need more scoring talent and could utilize the former 2014 2nd overall pick, as a depth option.
Donato provides value because of his ability to play both down the middle and on the wing. This is precisely the kind of versatility that playoff clubs are always looking for.
Since he found his game again with the Seattle Kraken, he's become a valuable option that multiple teams could find use for.
When Donato entered the season, both he and the team likely assumed that it would be his last season in a Blackhawks sweater. After signing a two-year, $4 million deal as a free agent in the summer of 2023, Donato was solid last season, with 30 points in 78 games.
Donato's currently making $4 Million AAV, and could find himself signing a new, more generous contract with his next team should they feel he's worth an extension.
Would the juice be worth the squeeze this time around?
