The Boston Bruins made a bunch of cuts on Sunday, after they signed Jeremy Swayman to a 8-year, $8.25 million contract extension.
Following the announcement on the signing the Boston Bruins had to make roster moves to be cap compliant, and because Monday at 5 P.M. Eastern time NHL teams had to submit their NHL roster for opening night.
During this process, Brandon Bussi found himself being placed on waivers. This was a good and bad thing. It was good because it meant the Boston Bruins finally had their starting goaltender locked up for the year.
But it was also bad because placing Bussi on waivers made it so that any team could claim him for free, and the Boston Bruins would lose him.
Fortunatley for the Boston Bruins, 2 P.M. Eastern time came around on Monday, and it was reported that Brandon Bussi ended up clearing waivers.
In the process though, the Boston Bruins ended up losing Jiri Patera to the Vancouver Canucks.
The Boston Bruins signed Patera as a free agent when it seemed like Jeremy Swayman wasn't going to be signing a contract anytime soon. Patera was brought in just to make sure the Boston Bruins had goaltending depth in case anything happened to Joonas Korpisalo, and or Brandon Bussi.
