Bruins Brad Marchand And Team Canada Facing Insane Accusations Following Latest Move At 4 Nations Face-off
Team Canada is facing a lot of backlash after the league approved an exception for them to be able to carry an extra defenseman for the remainder of the tournament After Shea Theodore left their first game with an injury.
In their first meeting against Team Sweden, Team Canada played majority of the game with five defenseman after Shea Theodore ended up leaving the game and not returning.
Theodore took an awkward hit along the boards and suffered a broken wrist midway through the first period, and will now miss the remainder of the tournament.
Canada was still at the minimum amount of skaters allowed in the torunament, as Travis Sanheim was a scratch for the first game and will not take over Theodore's place. Unfortunately at their morning skate on Friday, Team Canada was down a defenseman as Cale Makar was out due to an illness, the team has listed him as a game-time decision.
With this, Canada approached the NHL and NHLPA asking them if they could have another defenseman join their team because of it.
The NHL and NHLPA granted them the exception, and Thomas Harley of the Dallas Stars joined the team, but could not practice or participate in the game day skate unless he was playing.
Team Canada facing accusations
Fans of other Nations were outraged by this, stating that Canada was given special treatment.
The Daily Faceoff revealed this was not the case and that the NHL and NHLPA agreed to this because Canada was facing extenuating circumstances, and agreed that Canada should not have to play short a defenseman.
Canada is gearing up to take on USA in what is going to be an insane game, probably the most anticipated game, and Cale Makar's status is still unsure.
It will be a big loss if Canada is not able to have Makar for today's game and could change the outcome of the tournament for them.
