Ex-Boston Bruins goaltender Daniel Vladar has been a mainstay in the Calgary Flames organization. But with the ascension of Dustin Wolf, is his time at an end?

The Calgary Flames are fighting for a wildcard spot in the playoffs, as they're 13-10-5 in the Pacific Division. With Dustin Wolf quickly stealing the net from the veteran goalie, the Flames have a problem as Vladar hasn't been able to secure the starting goalie spot despite his 4-year tenure.

The Flames have prospect goalie Devin Cooley waiting in the wings, in the AHL with the Calgary Wranglers, and could find a way to trade Vladar in the future if not soon.

In 14 games this season Vladar has a 5-5-2 record, 2.74 GAA, and a .900 save percentage in the NHL.

Sportsnet Calgary Flames insider Pat Steinberg recently addressed the swirling Vladar trade rumors, suggesting that while a move isn't imminent, it's certainly not off the table. Steinberg indicated that General Manager Craig Conroy is likely seeking a second-round pick in return for the 27-year-old netminder.

Vladar was unable to win the starting goalie spot in Boston and has found himself the odd-man out in Calgary.

GM Craig Conroy's ask for the serviceable NHL goalie is to be a 2nd-round pick. But just because he's on the trade block now, doesn't mean he'll be in the future.

With the Flames vying for a playoff spot in the NHL, breaking up chemistry with the team could be detrimental.

The Flames GM could also be biding his time while waiting for Vladar to peak this season and increase his trade value exponentially.

He also could be kept in the Flames system as insurance against injuries, should the Flames promote Devin Cooley and utilize a three-goalie system, like the Philadelphia Flyers are currently.

Vladar was drafted 75th overall in the 3rd round of the 2015 NHL Draft.

On 28 July 2021, Vladař was traded by the Bruins to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a 2022 third-round draft pick.

Vladar's short tenure in the NHL has seen him play 89 games in the NHL, the majority with the Calgary Flames. He's put up a 42-28-14 record, 3.01 GAA, and .895 save percentage in the NHL.

The Flames goalie has a cap hit of $2.2 Million, which is an affordable hit for clubs in the NHL who aren't pressed against the cap.

When his contract expires he'll be an UFA, therefore an reasonable rental for teams who need help in the net.
