NHL PTO season is upon us and it appears the Boston Bruins are linked to five players who may join on a PTO while looking for a contract.
The Bruins who are always looking out to improve their roster appear to be looking at players who are near or around the league minimum seeking out a contract. The most notable name to start would be Blake Wheeler. Wheeler who began his career with the Bruins while playing three seasons in Beantown has worked around the league for several NHL organizations.
The once prominent goal scorer and overall player has watched his career fade to an extent and is looking for a new deal.
Adding Wheeler to the ranks would certainly help the Bruins with secondary scoring as he had 21 points through 54 games even though he suffered several injuries with the Rangers.
Another option would be
Tyler Johnson who played for the Chicago Blackhawks last year. The rather smaller forward had played for the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Blackhawks maybe a good depth option at a reasonable cost. Johnson has stated that he is looking to sign with a contender this year which could put him in the Bruins sights.
Other players mentioned includes
Kailer Yamamoto, the former Edmonton Oilers forward who then signed with the Seattle Kraken last season. The 25-year-old forward has had trouble trying to find his game as he only scored eight goals and 16 points through 59 games with the Kraken. Playing on a team like the Bruins would certainly help his game as he would get consistent minutes and some power play time.
The final two players are
Kevin Labanc formerly of the San Jose Sharks and
Max Pacioretty formerly of the Montreal Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights. Playing for the sharks certainly had dropped Labanc stock as the team has been dismal for several years and his stat line has shown.
Pacioretty Had played many games against the Bruins with their archrival the Montreal Canadiens. Having six 30 goal seasons to his name would certainly prompt general manager Don Sweeney to have a look but injury troubles have plagued him over the past number of years and could shy him away as well.
It remains to be seen on whether the Bruins will go down the PTO route but there are certainly many players who are available who could help the team round out their depth pit
