The Bruins weren't quite in a "must-win" situation heading into Saturday's afternoon game against the Philadelphia Flyers, but they definitely needed a boost.
And they got it. Boston pulled off a 3-0 victory at Wells Fargo Center, bringing their season record to 5-6-1.
From the start, it was clear the Bruins had come to play. The line of Cole Koepke, Mark Kastelic, and John Beecher reunited to give Boston a spark, and Philadelphia's Travis Konecny gave them an extra edge by taking a tripping penalty just seconds into the game.
Though the Bruins couldn't capitalize on that first power play, they set the tone by putting the first six shots on net and didn't let up. Matthew Poitras broke through later in the period to open the scoring, and a few struggling players found their rhythm as well. Morgan Geekie, who had been scratched in Thursday's tough loss to Carolina, picked up an assist, while Justin Brazeau, also a recent scratch, added his third goal of the season to give the Bruins a bit more breathing room.
Boston didn't completely dominate the game, but they played with enough intensity to get the job done when they needed it most.
Jim Montgomery once again was shuffling the lines, and make some changes last minute. We projected the Bruins to run similar lines to the ones they did in the Carolina game since their practice was canceled yesterday, but the Bruins just moments from the game dropped their lineup, and Montgomery mixed things up once again.
Here were the lines:
Do you think Montgomery should leave these lines alone and let them have some time to generate chemistry?
