The Boston Bruins new season has begun, and several predictions named to how the season will unfold by Boston.com.

General manager Don Sweeney had gone out onto the open market to look for a potential new first line centre and he managed to sign former Vancouver Canucks center Elias Lindholm to a long-term deal.

Lindholm has been predicted to finish with 71 points in his first year with the Bruins. The 29-year-old centre who has been known to be more defensive than offensive may find himself in the latter role as the Bruins are starved for goals and Lindholm could help provide them.

During the 2021-2022 season with the Calgary Flames, he managed to accumulate 42 goals and 82 points which would be a huge step forward. It remains to be seen on whether he will score that much but I feel the Bruins will remove the shackles and allow him to flourish on the top line.

A surprising prediction has stated that defenseman Mason Lohrei will take over the quarterback power play role from Charlie McAvoy. Lohrei has emerged as a star on the rise as he continues to seek ice time and to be more visible in front of head coach Jim Montgomery.

One aspect that falls in his favor is that the power play for the Bruins had not performed to task during the second half of last season and especially during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Change is inevitable and it wouldn't hurt the Bruins to try something new.

Finally, there's a strong prediction that head coach Jim Montgomery will receive a new three-year extension to his contract which will be delivered around the holidays and prior to the new year. He has been the head coach of the Bruins since 2022 and has taken the team into the playoffs every year.

Even though the Bruins had been written off last year early on, Montgomery and his team defied all odds and finished second in the Atlantic division. Despite some struggles, it's clear that Montgomery has control of this team and should get his extension prior to the playoffs.

Despite losing their last game to the Panthers 4-3, the Bruins will be on the road to play their next game in Colorado against the Avalanche. The game will take place on October 16th and puck drop will be at 9:30 PM Eastern.
