It appears that general manager Don Sweeney will not be able to acquire Carolina center Martin Necas as it seems the Hurricanes are preparing a new contract.

During the past several weeks, Necas has been one of the front runners to being traded to another NHL team as controversy began to build between the Hurricanes and himself. It was reported but he is seeking more ice time especially on the power play which the Hurricanes were reluctant to do which had soured the relationship.

During those weeks, Necas' father was outspoken towards the Hurricanes and how his son was not treated well. The Hurricanes pushed back on those comments. Much has changed since then as former general manager Don Waddell has left the organization and is now the general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Newly minted general manager Eric Tulsky has been far more vocal on signing Necas as he feels he is a vital peace to the Hurricanes lineup.

The Bruins were one of the teams interested in trading for his rights as he is currently a restricted free agent. The Bruins are in desperate need of help down the middle as adding Elias Lindholm will not be enough for the team in terms of depth strength.

There is still plenty of summer left to either make a trade or a deal and time will tell on whether tulsky can make it happen or another team will acquire his rights.
