Since Jake DeBrusk's departure to the Vancouver Canucks the Boston Bruins don't have as deep a forward group as they'd like.

However, they could find affordable scoring help in a native New Englander, who just signed a one year, $1 Million dollar deal with the New York Islanders.

It sounds like he is bound for waivers, despite the deal between him and the team.
This means, GM Don Sweeney could find some use for Wahlstrom in the Bruins lineup.

The time to strike is now, as he hasn't had much interest as a result the team has resorted to waivers, according to Arthur Staple of The Athletic.

If Wahlstrom makes it to camp he's got an uphill climb. Wahlstrom would need to have an incredible camp to secure a bottom-six spot. And if he's the 13th forward, he doesn't have a chance to show he belongs in the league, even on another team.

Waivers are probably his best chance to move on now.

Head Coach Patrick Roy doesn't see Wahlstrom as a solution on the bottom-six:

"a reliable bottom-six forward on a team with more than a few bottom-six candidates".

Wahlstrom was scratched by Roy for 24 games, after February 24th by Roy, a tough fate for Wahlstrom who was once thought to be a fixture on the top six.

Wahlstrom would finish the season with 6 points( 2 G, 4 A) in 32 games played with the Islanders.

The 2018 1st round draft pick by the Islanders has played 193 games, only scoring 67 points( 34 G, 33 A).

It seems a fresh start would be a good idea, as his future with Roy and the Islander is on the outs.
