While Cale Makar is quickly becoming one of the game's best defenseman, the 23-year-old is still a long way from a few of the milestones Bobby reached during his Hall of Fame career.
Last night, Makar extended his latest point streak to 12 games, one of the longest such streaks of all-time for a defenseman aged 23 or younger.
As you can see from the above list however, Makar's latest feat is nothing to rave about for Bobby Orr fans. The Bruins blueliner not only had a 12-game point streak of his own before turning 23, but he did it THREE TIMES in the SAME SEASON!
Yes, you read that correctly. Bobby Orr was 22 years young during the 1970-71 season, a campaign in which he had impressive 12-, 16- and 18-game point streaks.
Orr finished that season with his best totals ever, winning both the Hart and Norris trophies thanks to 37 goals and 139 points in 78 games. He finished the season with an astonishing +124 differential.
There's no question that Colorado's #8 has a little bit of Boston #4 in his game however.
Makar's season is nothing short of impressive so far; he leads all d-men with 20 goals and 63 points in 53 games. He's also fifth in the NHL with a +37 rating this season.
