For what felt like forever, the Bruins were rumoured to be heavily interested in Vladislav Gavrikov of the Blue Jackets, and so much so, that there was even a reported trade waiting to be signed off on.

However, Don Sweeney went out and acquired Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from the Capitals instead, which was a move that no insiders saw coming. Now, it's being reported that Columbus feels like Boston cheated them out of a deal they thought was agreed upon.

Brett Howard of the Only Bruins podcast broke down what happened between the two teams:

''First of all, the reason #CBJscratched Gavrikov is because they thought they had something with #NHLBruins. In their eyes it was more than just we may do something. jackets believed there was some sort of final commitment there. so, this whole time cbj believed they had something with the B's. Boston felt very different, there was never a commitment but they were thinking about doing it/being on their radar. They talked to #Yotesabout Chychrun, they checked in on #BlackhawksMcCabe/Lafferty. Orlov/Hathaway came together pretty quick.''

Sounds like both teams had different ideas of where they stood in trade talks. Sweeney could've pulled a fast one of the Blue Jackets but in the end, found a better deal elsewhere.
