On this day (May 7th) in 1972, Bobby Orr scored two goals and added an assist to give him 22 points in the 1972 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He actually broke his own record of 20 points that he set during the 1970 points with 9 goals and 11 assists (which is still 20th all-time).

Orr would end up finishing the postseason with 5 goals and 19 assists for 24 points. His record would stand until the 1981 Stanley Cup Playoffs when Denis Potvin of the New York Islanders recorded 25 points in 18 games.

Paul Coffey of the Edmonton Oilers would smash Potvin's record in the 1985 postseason when he recorded an incredible 37 points in 18 games *A record that still stands today*

Miro Heiskanen of the Dallas Stars is the most recent near the top of the leaderboard, who had 26 points in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Bobby Orr quite literally changed the way a defenseman could play in the NHL by combining defence and offence abilities. His record of 20 points in 1970 set the record for a defenseman's capabilities in the postseason.

The previous record before 1970 was 13 points by Doug Mohns of the Boston Bruins as well, in the 1958 playoffs.
