Jeremy Swayman just costed five Boston Bruins players their jobs after signing with the team on Sunday.
Today is the deadline for NHL teams to submit their rosters for opening night, and after signing restricted free agent Jeremy Swayman, Don Sweeney has begun to finalize the Bruins roster.
Nine players were reassigned to Providence on Sunday, with five players being cut with the purpose of them being reassigned to Providence in the American Hockey League as well.
The five players that could risk losing their jobs after being placed on waivers are Patrick Brown, Jeffrey Viel, Billy Sweezey, Brandon Bussi, and Jiri Patera who the Boston Bruins just claimed off of waivers.
Being placed on waivers means that any team in the NHL can claim them for free. These five players may be at risk of losing their job with the Boston Bruins after they signed Jeremy Swayman, as they now have little cap, and have to submit their roster for opening night.
The others that got cut from the Boston Bruins roster were Fabian Lysell, Georgii Merkulov, Riley Duran, Brett Harrison, Jaxon Nelson, Michael Callahan, Jackson Edwards, Ryan Bichel, and Kasimir Kaskisuo.
According to PuckPedia, after making the moves the Boston Bruins did on Sunday, they have $1,961,667 million in cap space now.
There are 26 active players on the Boston Bruins roster with 15 forwards, nine defenseman and two goaltenders.
Forwards (15): John Beecher, Justin Brazeau, Charlie Coyle, Trent Frederic, Morgan Geekie, Tyler Johnson, Max Jones, Mark Kastelic, Cole Koepke, Elias Lindholm, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, Matt Poitras, Riley Tufte and Pavel Zacha.
Defensemen (9): Brandon Carlo, Hampus Lindholm, Mason Lohrei, Charlie McAvoy, Ian Mitchell, Andrew Peeke, Alec Regula, Parker Wotherspoon and Nikita Zadorov.
Goaltenders (2) Joonas Korpisalo and Jeremey Swayman.
